西洋繪畫史上，所謂「古典畫」是指文藝復興開始，一直到浪漫主義，繪畫結合了宗教、文學、政治藝術，約從公元1000年開始到1800年間，本課程所選研究對象有義大利、尼德蘭、德國等文藝復興；義大利、西班牙、佛蘭德斯巴洛克；17世紀荷蘭畫派；17世紀法國古典、寫實畫派；18世紀法國洛可可一直到浪漫主義代表畫家。古典技法是把素描和顏色分開，小心翼翼的解決造型的寫實問題。
本課程研究古典技法的起源，步驟，過程，油畫材料的應用。
在本課程裡將從古代文獻上了解到的幾位有代表性的古典油畫大師的作畫程序作研究，包括凡·艾克、達·芬奇、提香、卡拉瓦喬、倫勃朗。了解一下他們所使用的油畫技法的異同之處。
In this class we will study works that produced under the influence of European academies of art. Painters from the Renaissance .Weekly lectures and seminar Slides would trace the evolution of painting technically and aesthetically from the Renaissance. Students learn to perceive nature in light of the masters and through the humanistic values that underlie figurative art. They are also taught to prepare canvas, the hand-grinding of oil paints, and the making and use of mediums based on the analysis of historical accounts.
Modern & Contemporary painting/drawing ( acrylic , oil , mixed media, watercolor, charcoal , Digital/iPad )
現代及當代繪畫（壓克力彩，油彩，混合媒介，水彩，木炭，數碼電腦繪畫）
現代繪畫的範圍很廣泛，用來指從19世紀末期到大約1970年代大部份的藝術作品 , 之後就是當代。（較近期的繪畫藝術作品通常被稱作當代繪畫藝術或後現代繪畫藝術。）繪畫原本的目的在於寫實地再現某個主體，然而攝影的發明讓繪畫的寫實功能相形見絀，於是就出現了新的藝術路線。藝術家開始實驗各種觀看的方式、材料、觀點等等，而通常作品都變得越來越抽象或使用照片作為一種工具來繪製。本課程研究現代及當代繪畫家理念和他們的方法。
Modern paintings includes painted works produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the style and philosophy of the art produced during that era. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency away from the narrative, which was characteristic for the traditional arts, toward abstraction or non-traditional practice of painting is some of the characteristic of much modern art . More recent artistic production is often called contemporary art or postmodern art.Our Classes will study modern and postmodern artist’s way of working.
